411 Seniors Centre Society
Overview:
In consultation with and under the direction of the Executive Director (or Designate), the Diversity Projects Coordinator will coordinate and conduct the following two projects:
- Elders Diversity Exchange Project - seeks to create opportunities for ethno-cultural seniors, seniors with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, transgendered and bisexual (LGTB) seniors to celebrate their unique contribution to society, and to share their cultures, skills, stories, and experiences through a series of nine cosponsored programs, services and celebratory events. the project also seeks to build bridges between mainstream senior-serving organizations that serve the above populations. A model that outlines the process and benefits of establishing an inclusive/welcoming environment will be created and shared in the community with senior-serving organizations wishing to improve their diversity practices.
- Elders Mosaic Project - seeks to foster and promote cross-cultural understanding and multiculturism, and eliminate racism amongst our community's seniors. The project will conduct two community-wide multicultural events (one indoor and one outdoor), develop a senior-focused anti-racism tool kit, implement effective awareness activities targeted to seniors on the Day for the Elimination of Racism, and encourage other senior-serving organizations to conduct similar anti-racism activities on the Day for the Elimination of Racism by using the tool kit.
Tasks/Responsibilties
- develop and conduct three cosponsored programs/services/events for LGTB seniors
- develop and conduct three cosponsored programs/services/events for seniors with disabilities
- develop and conduct three cosponsored multicultural programs/services/events for seniors
- plan and conduct two community-wide, intergnerational multicultural celebrations, one in the summer (outdoor) and one in the winter (indoor)
- develop and distrubute a senior-focused anti-racism tool kit
- plan and conduct senior-focused anti-racism awareness activities on the Day for the Elimination of Racism
- produce multicultural and anti-racism content for website
- develop a model that outlines the process and benefits of establishing an inclusive environment for all seniors
- conduct project evaluations, write final reports
Qualifications
- a relevant degree or diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- experience in multicultural anti-racism work
- awareness of the needs and issues of the LGBT community and of persons with disabilities
- experience with program development and events planning
- strong computer skills
Position: one year contract
Hours: 24 hrs/wk flexible
Start date: mid April
Salary: $22/hr (includes vacation and benefits
